Change Your Thoughts and You Can Change the World

 


Thoughts race through our minds, an internal monologue of ideas, great thoughts, indifferent things, and even criticisms and mean thoughts. Sometimes the onslaught of ideas is too much and you open your mouth and say things you very quickly regret. A succession of embarrassment, sorrow, follows and you wonder what can you do.

What can I do?

While it may seem impossible to change your thoughts or even to slow the cascading flow of thoughts it is possible. A river does not typically change course suddenly, but slowly moves. There are those who can change a river quickly, and those who can wake up one morning and decide to change thoughts for a better life. For most it takes minor changes that build up and provide success.

Why should I change my thoughts?

For many people, negative ideas and thoughts are more common than positive. Even if the negative thoughts are directed at yourself, they are destructive. If they are directed outside, you do not know what consequences will happen. Perhaps you think telling someone they look completely awful in that outfit will help them change. Yet they may be mean to someone else later in the day.

Snowballs and Thoughts

The problem with not trying to be positive is the lack of control. Your thoughts are not limited to you. No matter what you think, when you interact with others, it changes how they act. So when you are negative, they may be mean to someone else. That other person may be nasty to another person. It is like tossing a snowball down a hill and watching it grow.

What if I am just negative to me?

You may think that self criticism is justly deserved. Perhaps you think insulting your own work will keep your ego under control. All this negative energy hurts, it hurts you. By not allowing yourself good thoughts you are denying the world of your potential.

Negative self talk equals negative talk.

Your self talk is reflected in your interactions with others. While you may think your thoughts are contained, if your positive behavior is not genuine, people notice. Perhaps you can be a good enough actor to fool most of the people, but you are not fooling those closest to you. You are also not fooling yourself, which is your true character.

Change Your Thoughts

Think positive. When a negative thought pops into your mind, see how you can make it positive. When you begin to talk positively to yourself, you unleash your potential. You can not change the world by changing others. You can change your thoughts, then you change yourself. This is what creates a better world, because each life you touch, touches others and slowly changes the whole world.
